LIFE (Liquid Concentrated Biofertilizer for oil Palms)

Substantial fertilizers losses are common in humid-tropical or subtropical conditions. Loss by leaching, volatilization, or non-absorption by plants leads to wastage of fertilizer applied to oil palms. This not only causes an economic loss but also a potential environmental contamination.

Biomax bio-fertilizer “LIFE” offers a solution to these problems. LIFE acts in two ways. On one hand it helps the plants to absorb the fertilizer, minimizing the wastage. On the other hand it fixes atmospheric Nitrogen to cut down the Nitrogen fertilizer costs. This improves the fertilization efficiency for oil palms grown in highly weathered soils. Use of LIFE about doubles the fertilizer use efficiency of oil palms. LIFE leads to lush green leaves, essential for better oil yields. LIFE can improve soil quality, soil health and enhances growth and yield of oil palms. LIFE is of completely natural origin.

Fertilization of oil palms with about ½ the quantity of conventional fertilizer and LIFE at 1/4th liter twice a year is adequate to get the same results as complete dosing with conventional fertilizer.

TYPICAL BENEFITS

  • Augments soil microflora.
  • Promotes deeper rooting system.
  • Decomposes organic waste/mulch.
  • Mobilizes macro and micronutrients.
  • Fixes atmospheric nitrogen; lowering requirement of nitrogen fertilizer.
  • Suppresses pathogens and pastes.
  • Enhances nutrient cycling.
  • Produces and release bioactive compounds beneficial to plants.

USAGE FOR OIL PALMS

Fertilization of oil palms with about ½ the quantity of conventional fertilizer and LIFE at 1/4th liter twice a year is adequate to get the same results as complete dosing with conventional fertilizer.

Oil Palm Cultivation

  • Keep the seeds in a hot room for faster germination; which is 90 to 100 days.
  • Plant each of the germinated seeds in to separate small plastic container.
  • Observe that one new leaf grows every month.
  • Allow the young seedling to grow in the container for 4 to 5 months.
  • Transplant the seedling out into the nursery, when a leaf with two points (Bifid leaf) comes up.
  • Grow the seedling in the nursery for 1 year.
  • Plant the seedling in the palm grove when it has about 15 green leaves. (The seedling is thus16 to 18 months old when it is ready to be planted in the palm grove).
  • The singular bud at the tip of the growing palm produces 20 -25 leaves every year. More the leaves, more the flowers and more fruits.

NURSERY TREATMENT

Seed treatment

  • Add 10 liters of molasses or rice paste to 200 liters of plain water in a tank and mix well.
  • Add 10 liters of LIFE to the above solution and mix well. Avoid vigorous shaking.
  • Dip the selected seeds in the solution and soak for 30 minutes and remove from the tank.
  • Transfer to the germination room maintained at elevated temperatures.
  • Germination may take 90 to 100 days.

Early Growth

  • Plant each of the germinated seeds in to separate small plastic container.
  • Check that one leaf grows every month.
  • Allow the young seedling to grow in the container for 4 to 5 months.
  • Transplant the seedling out into the nursery, when a leaf with two points (Bifid leaf) comes up.
  • Grow the seedling in the nursery for 1 year.

PALM GROVE TREATMENT

Soil preparation

  • Start off with tilling of the land about 40 centimeters deep with a hoe or a tractor.
  • Prepare the planting hole and collect the soil removed from the hole.
  • Mix 10 ml LIFE per approx 1 kg of soil collected from the planting hole.
  • Place plant into planting hole and fill with remainder of mix.
  • Place the soil+ LIFE mixture back into the hole.
  • 500 kilograms of Di-Calcium Phosphate (DCP) per hectare.
  • Water the plant.

Transplantation

  • Ideal time for transplant is just before rains to allow proper root formation, elongation or development during rains.
  • One month before planting, dig a hole of size 0.60 meter long and wide, and 0.80 meter deep.
  • Collect the soil removed from the hole.
  • To the soil dug from the hole add 2 liter of LIFE and mix well.
  • Put the soil back in to the hole.
  • Plant the selected seedling at about 0.3 meters and fill the hole with the treated soil.
  • Irrigate well.
  • At the end of rains, apply ¼ liter of LIFE.

Root Dip

  • Add 10 liters of molasses or rice paste to 200 liters of plain water in a tank and mix well.
  • Add 10 liters of LIFE to the above solution and mix well. Avoid vigorous shaking.
  • Dip the roots of the transplants in the solution of LIFE thus prepared and soak for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the transplants from the tank and plant in the holes prepared. Dry in shade before planting if desired.
  • After a few months, at the end of rains apply ¼ liter LIFE along with other fertilizers, in a ring at the foot ground of the longest leaves and cover with small amount of soil or mulch.
  • Apply ¼ liters of LIFE every 6 months.

Soil Treatment

  • Prepare the planting hole and collect the soil removed from the hole.
  • Mix 10 ml LIFE per approx 1 kg of soil collected from the planting hole.
  • Place plant into planting hole and fill with remainder of mix.
  • Place the soil+ LIFE mixture back into the hole and water the plant.

Root dip

  • Add 10 liters of LIFE to 90 Liters of plain water. Add 5 -10 gm of natural adhesive such as rice paste.
  • Dip the roots of seedlings for 30 minutes before transplanting to the hole prepared for the purpose.

Regular Fertilization

  • Use 250 ml for each tree during the application of Fertilizers in a ring around the longest leaves.
  • Dilute LIFE adequately for uniform distribution.
  • Apply every six months.
